Apprentice Learning Support Assistant

Supporting pupils with additional learning needs is a highly rewarding role where you can make a real difference to a child's educational journey. As a Learning Support Assistant Apprentice, you will work closely with teachers and SEND staff to help pupils access learning, develop confidence, and achieve their full potential both academically and socially.

You will work under the direction of the class teacher and SENDCo to support pupils in the classroom and throughout the school day. Your role will focus on helping children engage with learning, develop social skills, and overcome barriers to education.

Key responsibilities include:

• Providing one-to-one and small group support to pupils.
• Supporting children to access the curriculum and achieve learning goals.
• Assisting pupils to use ICT and learning resources effectively.
• Encouraging independence, confidence, and positive behaviour.
• Monitoring progress and providing feedback to teachers and SEND staff.
• Supporting Individual Support Plans and attending review meetings where appropriate.

As part of the role, you will support pupils during break and lunchtime periods, helping to ensure their safety, wellbeing, and enjoyment.

This may include:

• Supervising pupils during mealtimes and playtimes.
• Encouraging good hygiene practices, including handwashing before meals.
• Promoting positive and inclusive play opportunities.
• Supporting pupils with their dietary and well-being needs.
• Responding appropriately to minor accidents or illness and seeking assistance when necessary.

Depending on the circumstances, qualified apprentices would be considered for roles within the trust should they be available at the time of completion.

We work closely with the Diocese of Bath and Wells who in turn support North Curry Primary school which is a church school within Richard Huish Trust.  With Richard Huish College re-designating as a 16-19 academy and formally joining Richard Huish Trust in 2021 the overall student number has increased to circa 4000.  The organisations work closely together in order to provide a wide range of opportunities to ensure that all pupils and students maximise their potential and develop aspirations beyond their expectations.
